Daniel Day-Lewis Returns to the Screen in Anemone, Directed by His Son

Daniel Day-Lewis, the acclaimed actor known for his transformative performances, is making a significant return to the film industry after an eight-year hiatus. The three-time Academy Award winner has joined the cast of Anemone, a family drama directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. This marks Ronan’s directorial debut and the first time the father and son have collaborated on a film project.

Anemone is set in Northern England and delves into the complex relationships between fathers, sons, and brothers. The story follows a middle-aged man, portrayed by Sean Bean, who embarks on a journey into the woods to reconnect with his estranged brother, a reclusive hermit played by Daniel Day-Lewis. Their reunion is fraught with tension and unresolved issues stemming from a tumultuous past.

The film also stars Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green, contributing to a strong ensemble cast. The screenplay was co-written by Daniel and Ronan Day-Lewis, combining their creative talents to bring this poignant story to life.

Anemone is scheduled to premiere at the 2025 New York Film Festival on September 26, 2025. Following its festival debut, the film will have a limited theatrical release in the United States on October 3, 2025, before expanding nationwide on October 10, 2025.
