Soap Legend Robert Scorpio Bids Farewell: Tristan Rogers Dies at 79 After Cancer Battle

Australian actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his unforgettable role as Robert Scorpio on General Hospital, passed away at age 79 on August 15, 2025, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. His death was confirmed by his longtime manager, coming just weeks after his diagnosis was made public.

Rogers often described Scorpio as his greatest achievement. Initially brought in for a single day in 1980, he transformed the role into a cornerstone of daytime television, appearing in more than 1,400 episodes. His impact went beyond the daytime soap, with memorable returns and starring roles in the spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift, where his character bravely confronted life-threatening health challenges.

Executive Producer Frank Valentini expressed that the General Hospital family is “heartbroken” and emphasized that “Port Charles will not be the same without him.” His manager described him as “genuinely loyal, kind, and devoted to his family,” highlighting how deeply he cherished playing Scorpio.

Born in Melbourne in 1946, Rogers began his career in Australian television before stepping into Hollywood. His breakout role as Scorpio contributed to one of General Hospital’s most iconic events: the 1981 wedding of Luke and Laura, which drew more than 30 million viewers — a historic milestone for daytime TV. Beyond his soap opera fame, he appeared in The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, Babylon 5, lent his voice to The Rescuers Down Under, and earned a Daytime Emmy for his work in Studio City.

Tristan Rogers is survived by his wife, Teresa Parkerson, their two children, and a grandchild. His legacy remains firmly cemented as one of daytime television’s most beloved and enduring stars.
