Gal Gadot, star of Disney’s live-action Snow White, has attributed the film’s disappointing box office performance to the pressure Hollywood placed on celebrities to publicly denounce Israel. In a recent interview on Israeli television, Gadot expressed her belief that the political climate surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict influenced public reception of the movie. She noted that while she attempted to provide context about the situation, the decision ultimately rested with the audience. Gadot admitted to being “disappointed” by the film’s underperformance, stating, “You win some, you lose some.”
The film, which featured Gadot as the Evil Queen and Rachel Zegler as Snow White, faced controversy due to the stars’ differing political views. Zegler, an outspoken supporter of Palestine, and Gadot, an Israeli army veteran, reportedly had a strained relationship during production. The movie’s opening weekend grossed just $42.2 million, falling short of its $100 million target and leading Disney to pause other projects like the live-action Tangled remake.
Gadot’s comments have sparked discussions about the intersection of politics and entertainment, with some industry insiders suggesting that the film’s failure was influenced more by internal dynamics and audience reception than by external political pressures. The debate continues as Hollywood navigates the complexities of celebrity activism and its impact on commercial success.
